Type location Guinea (Aenictus rotundatus stirps
guineensis n.st., Santschi, 1924b: 204, illustrated,
worker) from Kakulima, collected by F. Silvestri; worker only
described (see Bolton, 1995)
.
Santschi (1924b) gave a brief description, with illustrations,

Given the distinctive shape of the petiole and postpetiole, also
the more smoothly rounded transition from the dorsum to declivity
of the propodeum, and the consistency with the specimen I drew
from a finding at CRIN, Nigeria (see below), I feel there is
justification to raise this to species status. |
Nigeria specimens (as Aenictus species 1, Taylor,
1980b: 5). WORKER. TL 2.36 mm, HL 0.51, HW 0.40, SL 0.23, PW 0.26
Colour orange. Sculpturation only of faint rugoreticulation on
the lateral mesonotum and propodeum. Erect hairs moderate both in
length and abundance. Head shape in front view more rectangular
than rotundatus. Anterior clypeal margin denticulate.
Mandible with slightly elongated triangular apex but only very
small denticles. Propodeum without posterior margination.
Subpetiolar process with a blunt anterior apex; subpostpetiolar
process blunt triangular.
