Small (for genus) TL soldier < 10 mm; minor heads sub-ovoid to square; alitrunk profile interrupted shallowly convex but propodeum markedly angular; mostly dark near black.

(Forel, 1908a: 18, worker; Forel, 1914d: 253, soldier; Arnold, 1922: 661, queen); subspecies skaifei (Arnold, 1959: 336, illustrated, soldier & worker) from South Africa; worker only described (see Bolton, 1995). Known from various localities in South Africa - its presence on Kerguelen presumably was as an immigrant, as it was found only in the house used by the explorer, Dr Werth .
