Cataulacus centrurus Bolton

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location Cameroun; known solely from holotype worker, collected at Nko'emvon (D.A. Jackson, 1979) (Bolton, 1982) .

Bolton's description is at {original description}.

WORKER - TL 3.9 mm; diagnostic features as in key; stalked sub-orbicular cephalic hairs; simple pilosity of alitrunk and gaster is long and conspicuous; closely related to the smaller moloch (Bolton, 1982: 359, illustrated, profile of head alitrunk and pedicel, worker).

{Cataulacus centrurus} The photomontages are of specimens collected in Cameroun - south-western tropical coastal forest area between Edéa and Campo (McKey Wolbachia project) - Cameroon 81 from location BOU, 18 April 2001, on Alchornea species in the edge vegetation. These specimens seem smaller than the single example described by Bolton (1982) but show the consistent difference to the Cataulacus moloch specimens I collected in Nigeria - notably the petiole shape and generally longer (short) hairs on the alitrunk and especially the gaster, whilst the hairs on the face are stubby perhaps not "sub-orbicular". Other images can be seen in the folder at - {original description}
