return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server}Type location Egypt (Mayr, 1862: 765, worker); subspecies pharaonis (Santschi, 1914a: 432, worker) from Egypt, robusta (Emery, 1877b: 379, queen & male; Emery, 1915g: 10, worker) from Eritrea and turkanensis (Santschi, 1935b: 271, worker) from Kenya; worker and queen described (see Bolton, 1995) .

Mayr's (1862) description is at {original description}. Emery's (1877b) description of robusta is at {original description}. Santschi's (1914a) description of pharaonis is at {original description}. Santschi's (1935b) description of turkanensis is at {original description}.

Note - the record of "Crematogaster aegyptiaca Mayr subsp. senegalensis var. robusta Emery" by Finzi (1939a) was not Cr. aegyptiaca but Crematogaster senegalensis possibly varying from the type form. Emery only ever described the sexual forms of robusta and in his 1915 paper (Emery, 1915g) cited by Finzi further confused the situation.

{Crematogaster aegyptiaca}Collingwood (1985, illustrated), for specimens from Saudi Arabia, had propodeal spines broadly dentate, less than 0.13 mm; gaster with superficial sculpture and coarse pubescence; body colour reddish-brown
