return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location Kenya (Cremastogaster foraminiceps, Santschi, 1913a: 412, worker, in key; Santschi, 1914b: 89, all forms); subspecies mirmillo (Santschi, 1935b: 269, illustrated, worker) from Kenya, and staitchi (Forel, 1915c: 339, worker & queen) from Zaïre, collected at Lumaliza, by Kohl;, all forms described (see Bolton, 1995) .

Santschi's (1913a: 412) features listed in the key (see prefatory notes, above) were - TL 3.4-4.3; head entirely sculptured, with irregular striations and large punctures between especially towards the occiput; promesonotum feebly concave, with rugose sculpture; yellowish brown, antennae yellow; subalpine species from 1700 m.

Santschi's (1914b) description is at {original description} and {original description}. Santschi's (1935b) description with mirmillo is at {original description}

Forel' s (1915c) description of staitchi was -
WORKER - TL 4-4.3 mm; a little larger than the type; main difference being the large petiole (as in nigricans), whereas the postpetiole is more deeply scalloped behind and longitudinally notched as in the type. Seen from above, the mesonotum is distinctly concave in the middle; pronotum as type. Also separable from type by the shiny occiput, with very fainy sculpturation, including the hair pits, which still are visible. Other sculpturation on head similar to type, but generally feebler. Propodeal spines of similar length.
FEMALE - TL 8-8.2 mm; head as worker, but rust coloured; rest brown, appendages more red. Propodeum with dentiform tubercles. Wings smoky rust, especially towards the bases. Mesonotum and scutellum shiny and almost smooth. Postpetiole as in the worker.
Collected from living hollow branches of myrmecophilous plants at Lumaliza, Zaïre, by Kohl.
