Pheidologeton mayri Santschi

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location not known but Afrotropical (Santschi, 1928f: 201, queen; Ettershank (1966) had it as from South Africa; queen only described (see Bolton, 1995). If, see below, the Mayr description was of an African specimen then the type location is "Swakop-flusse in Südafrika" but Mayr had it as a worker (operaria) TL 11 mm .

Santschi's (1928f) note on assigning specimens described by Mayr (1866b: 899; Santschi had it as 1862) as Ph. hostilis is at {original description} - Santschi noted the F Smith specimen of "Atta hostilis" had the soldier at TL 3 mm and the queen as TL 6.2 mm. Mayr's (1866b) description of the "operaria" is at {original description}, the specimen was in the Holm Museum.
