Brown (1975: 46) examined the types of schultzei and cyriluli
(actually labelled "cyrili") and found them alike in
size, body form and sculpture; cyriluli having slightly
thicker scapes and reddish mandibles; the antennae and legs being dark
reddish brown or brown; not contrasting red as in most samples of the
type form. He provided the illustration (right) of the petiole of
specimens collected near Kienge by Ross & Leech (see below).
Brown sighted specimens from Zaïre (Kambove, Katange at
4000-5000 feet, by S A Neave; 34 miles N of Pweto, at 1050 m, and 27
miles SE of Kienge at 1150 m, by E S Ross & R E Leech); plus
others from Zambia (H Dollman, Mumbwa), South Africa
(G van Son, Kabulabula, Kalahari Desert) and Zimbabwe (WL
Brown, Wankie National Park, Kulozi River track and Sinamatella Camp).
J. Bequaert also collected specimens at Sankisia, Zaïre
(Wheeler, 1922).
Brown (1975) describes it as ground-dwelling, foraging on the ground
or on trees and shrubs.
