Type location South Africa (Mayr, 1862: 686, worker;
original location erroneously given as Cuba, hence the name,
corrected by Mayr, 1893: 195; Bolton, 1973b: 325, not illustrated,
worker & queen) collected at Natal, Durban; junior synonyms
gerstaeckeri (Forel, 1886f: 197, worker) from Tanzania,
striolatorugosa (Mayr, 1893: 195, worker) from Tanzania;
and wilmsi (Forel, 1910b: 30, worker) from Mozambique;
worker and queen only known (see Bolton, 1995)

WORKER - TL 6.4-7.5 mm, HL 1.77-1.85, HW 1.59-1.67, SL
1.75-1.88, PW 1.33-1.41
Transverse ridge on propodeum raised medially into a small tooth
or tubercle; propodeal spines directed upwards and upcurved.
Colour black, appendages brown and funiculi yellow-brown.
