Polyrhachis khepra Bolton
Type location Ghana (Bolton, 1973b: 334, illustrated, worker).
Holotype worker and one paratype from Kibi, collected by P.M. Room,
24.iii.1970, presumably in his cocoa canopy sampling, Room, 1971

Bolton's description (1973b) is at
WORKER - TL 5.2-5.6 mm; characterised by very reduced sculpturation,
lack of sutures on dorsal alitrunk and no propodeal armament. Petiole
with relatively long straight dorsal spines and paired small lateral
teeth, and a narrow, longitudinal keel-like ventral process. Entirety
of body densely clothed with fine long, erect, yellowish hairs;
pubescence sparse but long and grey. Colour black, alitrunk and gaster
polished, head duller; antennal funiculi yellow-brown, especially
apically (Bolton, 1973b, illustrated, full body dorsal view, alitrunk
and pedicel profile, anterior petiole). |
