Polyrhachis wellmani Forel

Type location Angola (Forel 1909b: 68, worker), collector C. Wellman; worker only known (Bolton, 1973b) .

WORKER - TL 8.3-8.7 mm, HL 2.2-2.37, HW 1.74-1.85, SL 2.74-2.81, PW 1.40-1.48.
Very similar to schistacea, separable by the apparently consistent lack of lateral petiolar teeth. Otherwise size near to small end of schistacea range; colour black (presumably) with numerous erect yellow-white or off-white hairs and long dense pubescence mostly hiding the sculpturation.(Bolton, 1973b: 323, illustrated, anterior petiole).

Bolton's description is consistent with that of Forel (1909b) descriptions - at , who emphasised the close similarity to Polyrhachis schistacea apart from the very distinctive bispinose petiole, lacking in the lateral teeth. Bolton's modern description (1973b) is at .
