Pristomyrmex africanus Karavaiev
Type location Uganda (Karavaiev, 1931d: 47, illustrated,
worker; type location wrongly given as Kenya by Bolton, 1981b);
junior synonyms beni (Weber, 1952: 20, worker) and primus
(Weber, 1952: 19, worker) from Zaïre, mbomu
(Weber, 1952: 19, worker) from Central African Republic,
and myersi (Weber, 1941a: 190, illustrated, worker; Weber,
1952: 18, queen) from Sudan. Described by Bolton as
widespread in woodlands and forest virtually throughout
sub-Saharan Africa (Bolton, 1981b)

 WORKER
- Of a similar size to orbiceps, TL 2.7-3.4 m; but
separable by its relatively small eyes, and a pair of acute teeth
or short broad spines on the pronotum. Colour varying from
orange-brown to blackish brown (Bolton, 1981b, illustrated,
alitrunk and pedicel only).
Collections in Ghana include those at Kibi (D. Leston)
and Mt. Atewa (B. Bolton) (Bolton, 1981b); and leaf litter
collections at 9 locations, 79 workers, in the semi-deciduous
forest zone by Belshaw & Bolton (1994b).
