Type locality South Africa (Plagiolepis trimenii, Forel, 1895g: 430, worker; Arnold, 1922: 596, queen; in Anoplolepis, Emery, 1925b: 18); subspecies angolensis from Angola (Santschi, 1930b: 72, worker) and karooensis from South Africa (Arnold, 1922: 597, worker & queen); worker and queen only described; in subgenus Mesanoplolepis (Bolton, 1995) .
