Tetramorium rothschildi (Forel)
Type location Ethiopia (Triglyphothrix rothschildi,
Forel, 1907c: 134, worker; Menozzi & Consani, 1952: 67, queen &
male). Used as a key example in the argument by Bolton (1985) for the
synonymy of Triglyphothrix under Tetramorium

WORKER - TL 3.8-4.7 mm; numerous branched hairs, closely applied on
the head. Lacking antennal scrobes and anterior clypeal margin deeply
excavated. Colour red-brown (Bolton, 1976, illustrated, full-face
view, alitrunk and pedicel profile).
Other findings from Kenya, plus a collection at Tumu,
Northern Region, Ghana (P.M. Room); probably a species of dry
or semi-desert locations (Bolton, 1976). Reported as granivorous in
Kenya (see Bolton, 1985). |
